Static Positions

The following positions typically remain static and do not progress through the CIRES career track promotion program:

Post-Baccalaureate Associates are individuals who possess at least a baccalaureate degree, are not enrolled in a graduate degree program, and work in support roles in CIRES research programs. These positions are normally not more than three years duration.

Post Doctoral Associates are individuals who possess a PhD or its equivalent and are working in training positions in CIRES research programs. These positions are also limited to not more than three years duration within CIRES.

Visiting Scientists are individuals who are working in collaborative roles in CIRES research programs and who do not receive salary through CIRES.

Visiting Fellows are individuals holding a PhD or equivalent that are selected for one of the CIRES Visiting Fellowships, awarded annually and sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Program criteria outline expectations for these Fellowships. CIRES supports Visiting Fellows for appointments up to two years duration. Visiting Fellows supported by CIRES for periods of less than two years may extend their appointments up to two years if funds are available from other sources.

Senior Managers are individuals who hold senior management positions within CIRES and do not concurrently hold regular faculty appointments.
