Protocols for Innovative Research Program (IRP)

The Innovative Research Program (IRP) is an internal CIRES competition designed to stimulate a creative research environment within CIRES and to encourage synergy between disciplines and research colleagues. The program encourages novel, unconventional or fundamental research that might otherwise be difficult to fund. CIRES-wide competitions are conducted each year to foster an innovative research environment where risk taking is allowed and even encouraged.

Timeline for IRP:
•    Application opens: Mid-January
•    Application closes: Beginning to Mid-March
•    Committee receives applications:  Beginning to Mid-March
•    Committee meets:  Early April
•    Recommendations to Waleed:  Mid-April

*IRP poster session:  Mid-November (4:30-6:30pm in Atrium)*

Currently, this program is handled by Becca Edwards, Director of Access and Cultural Innovation and Lucia Harrop, CIESRDS/CIRES Liaison with NOAA, and Linda Pendergrass, CIRES Events Manager.

The IRP winners are required to present their findings via a poster at the CIRES Annual IRP Poster Session and Reception. This event is held in the Fall of each year, typically after the November Fellows meeting, in the CIRES Atrium-4:30 to 6pm.

Responsibilities for the IRP Poster Reception include:

End of Summer/Beginning of Fall:  Becca Edwards will contact the winners to remind them about the Fall IRP Poster Session and Reception and give them details about the date and time.  After the initial contact, Lucia Harrop will follow-up with the winners to gather information about who is presenting at the poster session and their poster titles.  After this information is collected, Linda Pendergrass will plan the logistics of the event along with her Events team.  This will include communicating with our CIRES Communication Teams about all emails and communications (initial Save the Date out 5 to 6 weeks prior to the event), coordinate catering, coordinate poster boards and prepare the CIRES Atrium for the event.  Linda and her team will also be available for support of the event.

This is an interactive event with normally 80-100 participants.

Please email the CIRES Events Team for additional information.
