If you are participating in a hiring committee using HireVue for screening questions, you will receive the following email from Central HR after your invitations to interview have been sent to the selected applicants. Please read carefully below and reach out to cireshr@colorado.edu or directly to members of the recruiting team.

Thank you!

CIRES HR

Dear Evaluator,

Thank you for agreeing to participate in the video interview evaluation for this CIRES role. I value your time and expertise in the selection process, your participation is greatly appreciated!

I recently set you up in HireVue, our video interviewing vendor. When the first video interview has been completed, you will receive a link through the system, which will allow you to evaluate the candidate(s). The system is user-friendly, however, if you have any issues at all please do not hesitate to contact cireshr@colorado.edu.

The candidates have already been invited and asked to complete their video interviews by X day. Please keep in mind that some candidates may choose to withdraw from the selection process and may not complete their interview. Depending on the number of questions, each interview is usually between 15 - 20 minutes. You will receive an email from HireVue each time an interview has been completed, so feel free to evaluate as the interviews are completed.

Follow the steps below to complete your HireVue evaluations:

1. Click on the link from HireVue to access the interviews. I recommend Google Chrome for the best user experience with the HireVue system, however, you may use the browser of your choice. If you encounter any technical issues please let us know.

2.   Please rate each response for each candidate with stars. In the upper right-hand corner are 5 dimmed stars. Simply drag your mouse over the number of stars you believe each response is worth. The stars will then be averaged and appear in the My Average Rating in the same area.

3.   Please make a selection of yes, no, or maybe for each candidate once you have rated all of his or her responses. The yes, no, maybe selections are in the bottom right-hand corner with the label of My Recommendation. You will need to enter in a final recommendation of Yes, No, or Maybe which should roughly correlate with your average star rating above the final recommendation.

4.   Once all ratings and recommendation entries are complete – please make sure to hit the "Done Evaluating" button in the My Recommendation section. This will finalize and records your selections.

Some reminders for rating candidates

Be consistent in your evaluation. To be fair, keep in mind that some candidates may be nervous and not appear as charismatic as others: remember to focus on the quality of their answers rather than their presentation.

Use the full scale! We often tend to rate everyone as average (3 stars), but please use the full scale. You will hear standout responses that deserve five stars, and on the flip side, you will hear responses that are not adequate in relation to performing the job duties and deserve a one or two-star rating.

All criteria for evaluation must be job-related. The best test for this is to ask yourself: can you provide a job-related reason for the rating that you're giving?

If not, re-review the response and rate only based on job-related criteria. It is good practice to:

  • Only rate the candidates' responses based on the job qualifications, not compared to the responses of other candidates.
  • Avoid making assumptions about candidates’ motivations or interests that could unfairly exclude them from consideration.
  • Evaluate the quality and strength of the candidates’ skills and experience, not the potential fit.
  • Keep all applicant information confidential.
  • Avoid forwarding the HireVue link/email/ interview to others. This is necessary to ensure and protect the applicants’ confidentiality.

If you have any questions at all, do not hesitate to contact cireshr@colorado.edu
