- CIRES follows the standard University accrual limit of 352 hours (44 days).
- You begin accruing vacation and sick leave the first day you begin working at CIRES. However, you cannot use the vacation or sick leave in the same month in which you accrue the leave.* Full-time employees accrue at the rate of 14.67 hours vacation per month, and 10.00 hours sick leave per month. Less than full-time the rate is pro-rated to the amount of time working and/or on paid leave during a month.
- Once a year, a leave summary will be sent to you for your review of the past year's leave record. If you agree with the record, you will sign the summary and then forward to your supervisor for his/her signature. The signed, annual leave summary is in keeping with University policy 11E (Section IV, B)

- Contact (ciresleave@colorado.edu) if you have any further questions.
*Should you overuse your available balance(s), a payroll dock will occur. Unpaid leave, such as a payroll dock, is not leave accrual eligible. In the event of a payroll dock, a reduction in your next payroll advice, equal to the number of hours that was overused, will be processed and your balance adjusted to zero. If you've overused sick leave and/or vacation leave in conjunction with a serious medical condition, you may be covered under the Family Medical Leave Act or the optional Short Term Disability program.
