If you would like to hire a student hourly employee or GRA as a temporary researcher after graduation, we can promote them if we start the paperwork before they graduate. Eligible student employees may utilize an internal promotion process to transition from student employment to a temporary researcher position to continue their student work after graduating. Internal promotions cannot be used to fill a vacancy or new position and must be a continuation of student work.
Eligibility Requirements (all must apply):
• Be a current student employee and/or GRA at CU Boulder who is graduating.
• Be continuing the same work that is being performed in the current student position.
• Have not received other non-student employment at the University or externally.
We will also need CIRES Finance Manager approval to move forward with this option.
Once we have their approval, CIRES HR will need an updated resume/CV from the graduating student, and the student will need to complete a background check, which can take up to 2 weeks to process. Please allow a three-week timeline for this type of hire, so if you're considering this, please start the process early.
If we start the process after the student graduates and their current student appointment ends, we have to post the job for at least three business days and hire them through the Temporary Researcher recruitment process.
For more information on the process, please see the CU Boulder Research Faculty webpage.
